Moose enter 2008 with Sweep of The Aspen Leafs
After a few weeks off over the holiday break the Moose return to the ice in front of a capacity crowd for the first Friday night of 2008. The Moose took on the Aspen Leafs getting out to a quick start and never looking back....led by the goal scoring of the in-shape power forward Spencer Morton, and Poise and Swifty Hannafin Brothers, the Moose looked solid. The superior goaltending of Rookie Moose Keeper Nick Aulich kept the Moose alive during any mental breakdowns. Aulich tallied over 80 saves on the weekend and went on to capture the prestigious “player of the weekend” award. Aulich dawned the infamous awarding T shirt attire while rolling through a fresh two feet of Jackson snow in his Laser. “Aulich is solid in the pipes” said team owner Skip Wright Clarke, he’s a welcomed addition to the Moose squad and the community. The Leafs attempted to use brut force but failed miserably as the speed and craftiness of the Moose offense wilted the Leafs. A frustrated leaf blows uncontrollably in a blustery storm. The Moose finalized the evening with a 7-1 victory.
The Moose let Aspen come to life on Saturday. It may have been the 16 inches of snow that blasted the valley that put a slight damper on the Moose legs, late in the first period the Leafs took their first lead of the series. The Moose continued to battle as Da Bizz took to the mix to enforce an incident that occurred Friday evening when Moose Defensemen Uphesleja was run in a cheap shot by a Leaf attacker. Once the Circus had resided the Moose looked to crinkle the Leafs composure. Moose Defenseman Chris DeMarco’s bomb from the point late in the second period was too much for the flaking leaf goaltender to handle placing the Moose up 5-4. The Leafs quickly counter attacked bringing the frame to a stalemate at 5-5. The third period was a hard fought, intense level of Hockey with the Moose’s TJ Thomas slamming the door on the withered Leafs netting 2 goals in the last ten minutes of the tilt. “Thomas Lit it up” said Moose mascot “Hatrick the Moose”. Additional hard noised play from Moose forward and Sniper Justin Martin, and the speedy forwards Nick Dolentz and Josh Theken. Rookie Moose Forward Stastny was a welcomed addition to the Moose offense netting three goals and three helpers on the weekend. "Stastny's hands are incredible, he's mesmerizing with the puck" commented a long time loyal fan, backcountry enthusiast, and Snow King Ski patroller. Stastny is slated to add spark to the Moose offensive for the '08 season. The Moose finished the weekend with a 7-5 victory over the Aspen Leaves to continue the Moose undefeated streak.
