Over the weekend, Sun Valley came to town to teach the Moose a lesson... Although the temperatures plummeted outside to a chilly -28 degrees, inside the Snow King Center, temperatures flared as always between the rival Sun Valley Suns and your Jackson Hole Moose.
Friday nights contest was a hard fought loss for the local Moose, as Sun Valley proved to be too much for goalie Ryan Fredericks. The Suns edged out the Moose by a goal after being outshot in each period. Coach Adam Patterson thought the team did a great job controlling the puck and taking critical shots from quality angles. Unfortunately, the Moose defense struggled to keep Sun Valley out of the crease and maintain the perimeter. "Too many shots came from inside a 10 foot radius of our goalie, it was poor discipline on the our part." said Coach Patterson.
Saturday proved to be a tight scoring re-match of Friday's contest. The even 4-4 score with just over 10 minutes left in the 3rd period was stifled by a loss of control in Dustin Stolp. After a heated debate in the corner, the lanky forward was ejected from the game and left the Moose with a 5 minute major penalty to kill. "Our team handled the adversity with pride, and killed all but 30 seconds or so of the 5 minute penalty." said Coach Patterson. "I think our guys are showing that when you work as a team, we can do almost anything together, however, tonights game showed that it only takes one individual to unloop team cohesion."
The Moose travel to British Columbia this weekend for a Canadian tournament in Rossland B.C.
